The ESD special education teacher will be responsible to help evaluate the needs of students in elementary for special services. This teacher will work with the ESS coordinator as well as the classroom teacher and the elementary administration. When involved in teaching, the teacher will need to communicate effectively with the classroom teacher as well as with the parents.

• Be able to work with the ESS coordinator, classroom teacher, and ESD principal to understand, support, and evaluate student needs.
• Be able to work with testing results, classroom curriculum resources, and intervention materials as needed.
• Be able to work with classroom teachers to support students both in and out of the regular classroom.
• Be able to communicate well with teachers and parents the needs of identified students.
• Be flexible and able to adapt to new curriculum and new learning issues as they arise in the classroom setting.

• Provide the pupils under your care with appropriate instruction and positive learning experiences during the school day.
• Make adequate preparation for each day’s work, and teach, giving undivided attention to your duties during school hours.
• Maintain proper order and discipline among the pupils under your care and assist in promoting the welfare and well-being of the pupils, fostering their social and moral development. Report any problems to the principal.
• Keep classroom clean and orderly.
• Attend teacher/staff meetings.
• Keep record of daily attendance of pupils.
• Report discipline issues on an “Incident Report” and hand in to the principal.
• Report Injuries on the “Injury Report” and hand in to the principal.
• Remain in communication with the parents of your pupils.

Experienced teachers are needed to plan, organize and implement an approved curriculum in a one-room schoolhouse setting.

Dakar Academy works with accredited Colleges to provide student intern placement for those working towards a degree in an Education field. This opportunity to serve as a volunteer student teacher is for Dakar Academy's central campus and also the west campus.
